Top Punk Rock Karaoke Hits

We were invited to view a band show this weekend in Pennsylvania and all the songs that actually roused the crowd were punk rock hits. Everyone in the crowd at the bar were singing along and head banging to these hits.  Here are our top punk rock karaoke songs to pick at your next head banging karaoke party!

1985 by Bowling for Soup

Bowling for Soup is a rock band originated from Texas who released this viral hit in 2004. The band mentions U2 and Blondie as the song depicts the main character who is reminiscing and stuck in 1985.  Surely millennials now understands this feeling as we are heading towards 30s and 40s where all the hits we loved are considered “oldies” to the newer generation.

Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard

"Ocean Avenue" was one of many songs the band wrote for their major-label debut, but primary lyricist Key had difficulty completing its chorus. It was nearly left off the album until Key wrote the song's anthemic refrain. While the song's subject matter appears to be romantic in nature, the song takes root in the band's longing for home: for the group, "Ocean Avenue" represented a farewell to the sunsets and youthful days in Florida, where they lived, rehearsed, and grew up near the beach.

American Idiot by Green Day

Green Day is one of the most popular punk rock band who released hit after hit including Wake me up when September Ends and Basket Case.  I remember turning on MTV before going to school and would see Green Day’s main lead, Billie Joe Armstrong’s spiky hair jamming to American Idiot. With its catchy hooks and bold commentary, "American Idiot" became not just a hit song, but a cultural touchstone, challenging listeners to question the status quo and stand up for their beliefs.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet bursts onto the scene with infectious energy, immediately grabbing the attention of listeners with its catchy guitar riff and pulsating rhythm.  This was actually the opener to the band night that we went to in Pennsylvania this weekend. Released in 2003, the song embodies the raw, garage rock revival sound of the early 2000s. Its straightforward lyrics, delivered with swagger, express a sense of urgency and desire, as the narrator makes a bold plea for affection. The track's undeniable groove and electrifying vibe make it a staple of rock karaoke hit song. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" remains a standout track in Jet's discography, embodying the rebellious spirit of rock 'n' roll with style and attitude.

All the Small Things by Blink-182

Blink-182 is an American punk rock band formed in California with many hits such as What’s my Age again and Miss You.  All the small Things were one of the first hits released in 1999 and remains an iconic song associated with this band. Decades later, "All the Small Things" remains a beloved staple of pop-punk music, cherished for its irresistible hooks and relatable themes.

Complicated by Avril Lavigne

“Complicated” is the first single from Avril’s debut album Let Go, and by extension her entire music career. It’s about the problems that arise when you pretend to be something you’re not and you just need to chill, relax, and enjoy life. The song held the top spot on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart for 16 weeks in a row.  This song was my first gateway introduction to punk rock genre when I was in elementary school.  Avril Lavigne remains as a core memory of my child hood memories and as well as other millennials.  100. The song went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide.

Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus

"Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus is a nostalgic anthem that resonates with listeners on a deeply emotional level. Released in 2000, the song tells the story of a teenage outsider who dreams of winning the heart of a popular girl while grappling with the challenges of adolescence. With its infectious melody and raw, relatable lyrics, "Teenage Dirtbag" captures the universal experience of feeling misunderstood and yearning for acceptance. The song's catchy chorus and catchy guitar riff make it an instant classic, while its themes of love, longing, and teenage rebellion continue to strike a chord with audiences of all ages. "Teenage Dirtbag" remains a timeless favorite, evoking memories of youthful angst and the search for belonging.

So grab the mic, unleash your inner rebel, and let the punk rock karaoke party begin! Whether you're belting out classics from Blink-182 or channeling the angst of Green Day, these punk rock anthems are sure to make your karaoke night one to remember.
