A Deeper Dive into the Song: Golden by Huntr/x Lyrics Meaning
Golden isn’t just a song, it’s an anthem. According to the members of the fictional girl band, Huntr/x, the song is about them and their lives. The song reflects on Rumi, Zoey, and Mira’s struggles and acceptance of themselves.
Verse 1
This part of the song focuses on each girl’s struggles.
Rumi: She was raised by her mother’s friend, Celine, to be a hunter/protector. Since hunters/protectors use their voices to make the honmoon (the barrier that separates mankind from demons) stronger, Huntr/x was built around Rumi. Rumi feels the pressure of this and feels like she didn’t have a choice.
Zoey: Zoey is American-Korean and struggles to fit in on both sides. She doesn’t feel American or Korean enough to belong. This was further emphasized in the film when she was being manipulated by Gwi-Ma where he used the voice in her head to tell her she “wasn’t enough and too much” at the same time. In this verse, Zoey feels accepted and like she belongs with Huntr/x.
Mira: Mira was branded as a black sheep because she acted more “wild” than her traditional family (as seen in the family portrait), but this is what made her famous and what her fans like about her.
Pre-Chorus
This focuses more on Rumi and her struggle with hiding her true self. She always felt the need to hide her marks since she was a half-demon, even with Zoey and Mira. She’s afraid that this will change their view of her. This is her turning point, where she accepts herself and is determined to achieve the golden honmoon, which she believes will make her marks disappear.
Chorus
Rumi, Zoey, and Mira have accepted their roles as hunters/protectors. They know that if they work together and use their voices, they will be successful in protecting the humans. As they always say, “happy fans, happy honmoon”. They believe that if they keep their fans happy, they will achieve the golden honmoon.
Bridge
Rumi longs to be free from her “curse”, which is her marks. Rumi is a half-demon, which explains her marks. She was raised to hide her identity and her marks, fearing that she would be judged for it. She believes that by fully embracing her role as a hunter/protector, they can achieve the golden honmoon and this will finally remove her marks.
Outro
This part reflects Rumi, Mira, and Zoey finally accepting their roles and coming together to achieve the golden honmoon.
