A Deeper Dive into the Song: Love Me Not by Ravyn Lenae Lyrics Meaning
Verse 1
This verse is portraying a borderline obsessive love. Ravyn is so hung up on someone that she will go out of her way to meet the other person. She is almost begging for him to see her, even to the point of watching their activities (You up now, I see you). However, she is also well aware that this kind of love is just temporary. She knows that even if she gets what she wants now, which is to be with him, she wouldn’t really be happy. She actually even feels exhausted with this love.
Verse 2
This is where the obsession worsen. She admits that it’s getting messy and that she is “addicted” to his love. She wants him to control her so they can always be together because she dreads it when they’re separated.
Pre-Chorus
She’s pleading with the Lord to make their relationship stronger. She’s willing to stay in the relationship, even if it means being in a cycle of ups and downs.
Chorus
This is where her struggle intensifies. She knows she can survive without him, she WANTS to not be with him anymore. But her longing for him is still strong. It’s implied that she’s the one who initiated the breakup (probably for her own sanity), but everything reminds her of him and is making it hard for her to actually move on.
This part gives a different version of the “love me, love me not”. In this part, Ravyn is torn between letting him go and being independent (love me not) and wanting to be with him to the point of obsession (love me).
Post-Chorus
This part shows his side of the game. Ravyn is fully aware of what the guy is doing to her, thus making her confused whether he truly loves her or not. She loves him, but she knows he isn’t serious with her.
Bridge
Ravyn paints a picture of a toxic relationship cycle where they would fight, he would apologize, and they would carry on like nothing happened. She’s aware of how toxic this is, but decides to ignore it as long as she has him. At the end, she questions her own sanity for being ok with this kind of relationship.
